Understanding Your Payslip: What Do All Those Deductions Mean?
When payday hits, it’s easy to focus on the total amount you receive, but understanding your payslip helps you know where your money is going and why it matters. For any questions with regards to your payslip, please send an email to HR@luchalunako.com
Gross vs. Net Pay
Gross Pay: The full amount you earn before anything is deducted.
Net Pay: The amount you take home after all deductions. This is the number that you receive into your bank account
Common Deductions You Might See
UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund). This is a legal deduction. You contribute 1% of your salary, and your employer contributes another 1%. If you lose your job or go on maternity leave, UIF can help you financially.
PAYE (Pay As You Earn). This is a tax deduction. Not everyone pays it; only if you earn above a certain amount. If you’re paying tax, you can register with SARS to get your tax number.
