ZINHLE PHAKATHI

Impact Area: Convenor of the Lucha Lunako Facilitation Network
Location: Johannesburg

Zinhle Phakathi is a big believer in the power of people and stories—and how both, when nurtured with care, can spark real change. As the Marketing Lead at Lucha Lunako, she’s helping shape the voice behind the vision,  how the organisation shows up in the world and builds meaningful bridges with the youth, communities, and partners it serves.

With Masters in Sport Sociology and Management, and a background in strategic communications, brand storytelling, and ecosystem building, she’s spent the last decade building, connecting, and supporting communities across the African continent. She knows how to bring people together, find the magic in the messy middle, and get things done—with heart and with impact.

In addition to driving marketing and business development, she’s hands-on in programme delivery, lending her insight to make learning journeys more culturally relevant, practical, and human. Whether it’s guiding entrepreneurs to professionalise their craft or designing a brand campaign that actually speaks to young people, she brings warmth, clarity, and an unwavering belief in what’s possible.

Why I’m at Lucha

I’m here because I believe in the power of radical collaboration. I want to help reimagine how we prepare young people for work, entrepreneurship, and dignity—by telling better stories and building better systems.

ROBYN CLARK

Impact Area: M is for Money – Programme Management, Strategy & Partnerships
Location: Johannesburg

Robyn Clark is the lead for Lucha Lunako’s flagship numeracy programme, M is for Money (MIFM): a practical mathematics literacy course that equips young people with the numerical confidence and skills they need to enter the workforce, grow a side hustle, or run a small business. She holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from Wits (2013) and brings over a decade of experience as an educator, curriculum designer, and programme innovator in the South African education space.

In her current role, Robyn is responsible for the full scope of MIFM: running the programme, evolving its content and strategy, and driving its expansion beyond Lucha Lunako’s existing sites. A key focus of her work is building partnerships with corporates, foundations, and organisations that want to embed practical numeracy development into their own programmes or CSI initiatives – particularly those working with youth facing barriers to employment.

Why I’m at Lucha

I firmly believe that numeracy is not just an academic skill, it is an economic one. In a country where poor mathematical literacy is directly linked to unemployment and financial exclusion, giving young people the ability to calculate, plan, and make sound financial decisions is one of the most impactful investments an organisation can make.

Contact Robyn if you:

At Lucha Lunako, his key impact areas include product and program development, mentorship, facilitator development and the transformation of youth programmes into video content.
